500 Word Statement Of Intent
In my coursework, I intend to create a 90 second to two-minute trailer for my new TV drama series. My TV will either be crime genre or a family genre. My trailer will meet the minimum requirements such as at least filming at two different locations, having clear use of conventions of trailers, having a wide range of shots, appropriate framing of shots etc. Within my coursework, I will be intending to do a crime drama. The crime drama I will be creating will meet the requirements of the brief such as it will be between 90 seconds and 2 minutes. Furthermore, within my trailer I will be using a variety of locations as it will make my TV drama trailer more appealing. Certain shots of mine will be establishing shots which I believe will excite the audience and make them want to watch the tv drama trailer even more. The trailer I will be producing will have the key conventions of a normal trailer in order to be successful. For example, when I am editing I will start off the trailer with slow paced editing however, the pace of the trailer will build up towards then end which will create a lot of suspense and intrigue the audience. The slow paced editing will typically be used for establishing shots and explaining the narrative. The music I will be using in the will help build up the tension. The use of the background music will be vital during production as well. The brief clearly states that there has to be a range of sound on offer, so through the use of non-diegetic sound and diegetic sound this will be shown. Furthermore, I will also be using foley sound in my trailer as it will make my trailer more effective. One of the most crucial thing mentioned in the brief is " Clearly identified elements of the narrative in line with the conventions of trailers. Focusing on the Description , the Title for this crime drama is called Youth Hood. The Tagline that will be linked to the title is 'We're not the same'. The TV show has a linear narrative therefore, the story arc will play over the whole season. Every season includes 4 episodes but the narrative continues from one season to another. A summary of my narrative is, it starts of at a equilibrium where Omari who is the king pin in this drug gang has to pressure Ashley's little brother for the money that Ashley owes because Ashley is now in prison and Omari needs his money. Due to unfortunate events, Ashley went to prison because he was involved in selling drugs within his estate because he struggled to get a job despite visiting the job centre and applying to a number of jobs a numerous amount of times. This truly reflects some of the lives people live in London and what they have to do in order to make money and feed themselves and their families. Blumler and Katz theory on uses and Gratification can be applied to this TV show since many of the audience can form personal relationships with the characters. For instance, the audience may feel sympathetic towards the antagonist because all his doing is providing for his family and he needs the money in order to provide for his family however create emotional attachments with the protagonist due to him being very brave and heroic on trying to eliminate the gang that is constantly disturbing him. In addition, the locations that i will be using to film these scenes will be at an estate, Alexandra palace, primrose hill etc. The reason for this is, many young teenagers can relate as it is a place all teenagers in London are aware of and they know this is going on. Mostly natural/high key lighting will be used since this TV show is very emotional and there are characters that become vulnerable when it comes to Ashley going to prison and his brother getting bullied for something he didn't do. Within my production, I plan to use an ensemble cast that is ethnically diverse. This will allow me to subvert racial stereotypes such as people assuming teenagers that are typically darker toned are dodgy/ doing illegal activity. This will also be relatable for the audience as we all live in London which is known for being ethnically diverse. Furthermore, this will make it more interesting for the audience to watch. Within my production I will also use enigma codes which will keep the audience thinking what's going to happen next and keep them intrigued and I will also be using action codes. Regarding promotion and distribution, I will be using Twitter, Instagram and Youtube to promote my TV drama. On YouTube there will be a trailer that's posted for the audience to watch, on Instagram there'll also be trailers along with some pictures and exclusive interviews with some of the actors and on Twitter there will also be exclusive content as well. On twitter there will also be a #️⃣YouthHood in order to get it trending and the word being spread. I will be streaming my TV Drama on Netflix as a lot of people nowadays use Netflix, particularly the age group we are targeting.
